Center for Excellence

A Collaborative Effort to Strengthen State and Local Government

The Center for State and Local Government Excellence ("SLGE" or the "Center") was created in 2007 with financial support from ICMA-RC to respond to the challenges facing state and local governments as they sought to attract and nurture the best workforce for the 21st century.

Since inception, SLGE has initiated numerous major research projects, conducted national surveys, and brought attention to future workforce challenges and opportunities in the public sector. The Center's research has been cited in Congressional testimony, is often referenced by state and local officials, presented at professional conferences, and covered by the national and regional media.

With the Center's findings on financial realities and solutions that work, we believe state and local government leaders will be better equipped to answer the difficult questions they face on retirement planning, retiree health care, and many other important issues affecting public employees.

ICMA-RC and SLGE look forward to working together in the years ahead to find more solutions to these issues, and we hope that our partnership will serve as a useful resource for you.
